Drawing. (Taken with instagram)
I just turned 25 two days ago. 25 - as in, closer to 30 than to 20. A quarter of a century. Halfway to 50. I could so easily freak out.
I remember when I was a kid, and a year was such a long time. You couldn’t even fathom what would be in a YEAR’s time. Now it’s just Whoops, another year has gone by.
My life isn’t yet where I would like it to be, but when I compare it with being 20, it sure has come a long way. It’s much less floopy, really. When I turned 20, I had just finished high school and moved to Australia. I was living with Emil and his dad, I had no job, no idea what study, no license or savings account. Now 5 years later, I have finished my diploma on top of my class (hell, I even just finished teaching the very same course!), I have a job in my field that I don’t hate, a house, a car, a dog (this is important), and 6 different shiny Apple products (also important). I’m still with the person I fell in love with when I was 17. Life is pretty good.
Now I just have to work on making the next 5 years just as productive. I’ll start now by taking a nap.
The last couple weeks I’ve become more interested in photography again - this was me playing with remote shooting. I bought Lightroom 3 (see previous post), a new 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron lens, and a couple books. As always, the only thing lacking is the actual.. doing.. Somehow all I want to do is nap.
Me: You know what I want for my birthday? Lightroom 3! It has a new and improved noise reduction algorithm!
Emil: And you know what I want? Visual Studio 2010 with built in jQuery support!
Me: Aw, look at us geeks.
Emil: You actually thought I was being serious?!?!?
Um. I think it’s clear who the bigger geek is here.
I want to learn new things. I want to draw and be creative. I want to take more photos and get them framed or make an album. I want to cook and try new recipes and eat. I want to spend more time with my boyfriend. I want to play more with my dog. I want to travel. I want to sleep in again. I want to illustrate a book and open a stationery store. I want to post on Tumblr more than once a month.
Why is there not enough time?!?
Oh. And also not enough money.
Pretending to be doing something productive at work is harder than actually doing work.
Did I mention that I now have a cat? Well, not really. I noticed a cat running around the neighborhood that was basically skin and bones, so I figured she* was a stray and started putting some food out for her. That was a couple weeks ago and now she just sits in front of our door and meows until we feed her (Chase is not happy). See? A dog is happy if you feed him. A cat expects that you feed her.
She is very sweet though, and it looks like she likes the pats and cuddling as much as the food. She’s even tried to come inside the house, which I wouldn’t mind, but I can only image Chase’s reaction. He would probably move out.
So yea. I kinda have a cat.
*Come to think of it, I don’t even know if it’s a boy or girl cat.
